It was a busy weekend for a few of our athletes. Friday evening and all day Saturday was the Dyfed Secondary Schools Athletics Championships in Carmarthen and the third Louise Arthur League match of the season was held in Swansea on the Sunday.

The action started on a sunny Friday evening in Carmarthen Athletics Track with the 400mH, 300mH, 1000m Walk, 3000m, Pole Vault and Hammer events, before many of the athletes and officials were back early on Saturday for a full day 8-hour programme.

There were many great performances by the harriers members who for one day only, were competing against each other rather than with one another. We are at the forefront of the sport in Wales, and for that we can thank the talents of the pupils in the Dyfed Schools, the commitment and skill of the teaching PE departments throughout the three counties and the support many receive from the coaches in the athletics club. Our thanks also go to the Welsh Athletics Officials, Leisure Centre Staff, St Johns Ambulance and the Carmarthen Harriers Refreshments team.

The Dyfed team for the Welsh Schools Track and Field Championships to be held in Cardiff on Saturday July 5th have been chosen and invitations have been posted to all athletes and reserves selected. Please send the reply slip back to Hedydd Davies as soon as possible. Information will follow on the website in the next few days.

Sixty-seven Carmarthen Harriers Athletes made the short journey to Swansea for the third Louise Arthur match. Once again the club finished in fourth position behind Swansea, Pembrokeshire and Neath with 874 points. Despite a number of wins, especially in the 800m races, the club were unable to fill every event and relays which cost the team at the end. We must have a full team for the final event at Brecon on 12th July.

The club also hosted a number of young athletes from Melbourne Australia for 4 days. This was the eleventh year for the group to be hosted by members of Carmarthen Harriers. After arriving on Thursday afternoon, they visited school on Friday before competing at the two events over the weekend. Sincere thanks to the athletes and parents of Iwan Glynn (Alexander Jackson), Archi Morgan (Ethan Donoto), Ben Thomas (Jarrod Oliver), Iestyn Williams (Brad Butcher) and Sioned Glynn (Zac Farrell) for hosting the athletes and helping to make the visit to Carmarthen an enjoyable experience for our visitors.
