Shortlisted Finalists across eleven categories head to the 2018 Carmarthen Town Sports Awards PDF Print E-mail

The Carmarthen Town Sports Awards returned tonight (Friday 25th January) 2019 at the Carmarthen Quins Rugby Football Club Clubhouse in town. Fe wnaeth Gwobrau Chwaraeon Tref Caerfyrddin dychwelyd yn gynharach heno (Dydd Gwener 25ain Ionawr) 2019 yng Nghlwb Rygbi Cwins Caerfyrddin yn y dref.

The annual awards organised by the council once again recognised the sporting achievements and the success by athletes and coaches in the Carmarthen area over the past 12 months.


Success in the Town in 2018 for individuals & teams...

Carmarthen Town Council had invited the public over the past few months to nominate for this year's edition with an independent selection panel of sporting experts then deciding on the winners and runners up of each category.

The awards which are separate from the Carmarthenshire Sports Award, champion success within the town across all sporting fields.

All winners & runners up shortlisted, were all invited to attend the presentation evening in Carmarthen. Several sports were again in this year's sports awards, ranging from athletics, rugby, gymnastics and football to judo, squash, darts, karate, skiing, cycling and cricket.

All nominations were of very high standard which shows how strong success is here in Carmarthenshire over multiple sports.



The eleven categories were: Senior Men / Dynion Hyn; Senior Female / Menywod Hyn; U13s Junior Male / Bechgyn Iau O Dan 13; U13s Junior Female / Merched Iau O Dan 13; U16s Intermediate Male / Bechgyn Ganol O Dan 16; U16s Intermediate Girls / Merched Ganol O Dan 16; U19s Youth Male / Bechgyn Ieuenctid O Dan 19; U19s Youth Female; Merched Ieuenctid O Dan 19; Junior Team / Tim Iau; Senior Team / Tim Hyn and Coach/Organiser/Volunteer / Hyfforddwr/Trefnwr/Gwirfoddolwr. The twelfth and final award was a special award presented to Roy Bergiers.

The evening began with a buffet and a chance for guests and finalists to engage amongst each other, before awards started to be given out. A full house again gathered inside The Rugby Club Clubhouse on a cold January's night for the occasion attended by many visitors.

Carmarthen Town Council were again most fortunate in obtaining two sponsors for the event - E D Davies MBE (Ifan JCB) and J H Morse and Sons Ltd.


Athletics again being recognised on the track & cross country...

These awards have been a great success for Carmarthen & District Harriers AC over the years and this year was no different, as 23 nominations had been put in with 6 being shortlisted to attend on the evening. Congratulations everyone! / Llongyfarchiadau i bawb! Keep up the good work.

Ffwrnes Theatre in Llanelli, next up in a fortnight...

Carmarthen Harriers Athletics Club would like to congratulate the town council for staging another successful presentation evening for all those in attendance, as well as congratulating the shortlisted athletes, teams and volunteers who received an award on Friday.

The county sports awards continues on Friday 8th February in the Ffwrnes Theatre in the heart of Llanelli Town Centre, where the Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards will return in 2019 following its great success last year. Thirty seven of the county's best are up for 13 awards to be announced on the evening. The awards are organised by Carmarthenshire County's Sport and Leisure team.
